Case study

Charles White Ltd

Charles White Ltd used factored development charge point funding to install electric vehicle (EV) charge points and add value to its developments.

Key points

  • Charles White Ltd used funding to meet the growing demand for EV charging at its developments.
  • It found the funding process fast and straightforward and overcame any challenges with our support.
  • Installing EV charging infrastructure improved the company’s reputation and added long-term value to its developments. It now plans to make more sustainable upgrades.

Client profile

Charles White Ltd operates in the property management sector. With a team of around 40 staff across two offices in Edinburgh and Belfast, it provides factoring services throughout Scotland and equivalent property management services in Northern Ireland.

As well as factoring services, it carries out project work including development upgrades.

Challenge

Residents at several developments managed by Charles White Ltd were concerned about the lack of EV charging, which they saw as a barrier to adopting EVs. Knowing that EV ownership is set to increase, the company wanted to futureproof its developments by installing EV charge points and offering guidance to clients.

Solution

Charles White Ltd found out about our factored development charge point funding through its charge point installer. It applied and secured funding for 14 charge points for a development it manages in Edinburgh.

It found the application process straightforward, noting the prompt approval timelines and quick release of funding once the paperwork was complete.

The main challenge was getting consent from property owners in developments that didn’t have established residents’ committees. With the support of our team, Charles White Ltd found a way to secure these permissions.

Results

Installing EV charging infrastructure improved the company’s reputation with clients. The company now highlights its collaboration with us and expertise in securing funding as a competitive advantage when acquiring new business.

Many residents who opted for charge point installations use them to charge their EVs. Others chose to install only the infrastructure and not the charge points to prepare their properties for future EVs. This approach has added long-term value to the developments managed by Charles White Ltd.

I would thoroughly recommend taking advantage of the generous grants available from Energy Saving Trust. The process from start to finish is mostly straightforward. The members of staff are helpful, and money is paid promptly. Darren Drummond Development Inspector, Charles White Ltd
